Evergreen Solar Inc., USA, develops and manufactures solar panels with their patented crystalline silicon technology, which they call String Ribbon. This technology allows them to produce solar cells that require less material than conventionally produced solar cells. Evergreen products are sold through a dealer network.
Evergreen Solar Inc. was formed in 1994. It was a financial venture launched by institutional investors who were experienced in energy and technology fields. The manufacturing base is located in Massachusetts. In April 2006, Evergreen Solar introduced their Spruce line of solar panels. They entered into a joint venture partnership in June 2006 with Q-Cells AG, Thalheim, and Renewable Energy Corporation.
Photovoltaic (PV) Product Lines
Evergreen Solar has two photovoltaic product lines -- the Cedar Line and Spruce Line. Evergreen stopped producing the Cedar Line solar panels in September 2006. The Spruce Line solar panels use technology that produces more energy. Evergreen solar panels are environment-friendly because they do not use any lead in their materials.
